The Effect of Delayed Wound Closure in Acute Perforative Appendicitis

Abstract
This report is a clinical analysis of 77 cases of perforating appendicitis out of 255 cases of appendicitis which were operated at the Department of Surgery of Gyeongsang National University Hospital from January 1988 to December 1990. The
following
results were obtained.
1) The male to female ratio was 1.96 : 1.
2) The incidence of perforation was the most prevalent in the 1st decade(18.3%).
3) The main symptoms and physical signs were RLQ pain and RLQ tenderness.
4) postoperative compliciation occured in 29 cases(37.7%). The wound infection(23.4%) was the most frequent compliciation.
5) The wound infection was not relate to age, duration of symptom, skin incision, operative finding, bacterial species of infected wound site.
6) Average hospital days of the patients of primary closure were 12.1 days and delayed wound closure were 15.2 days.
